Freeganism in rural areas

Just been reading up on Freeganism.

It looks like an extremely effective way of living, although if I'm honest I find the thought of rumaging through bins more unpleasant than I ought to.

Meanwhile, I know some of you have lived as Freegans in the past - does it only work in urban areas where there are big commercial bins with large amounts of needless commercial waste, or can it work in rural and semi-rural contexts?
